A sustainable Mediterranean-tropical garden designed in 2018, featuring resilient plants native or naturalized to Mallorca. Garden maintenance is minimal, employing xeriscaping principles: low water use and reduced upkeep. The space remains visually attractive, vibrant, and harmonious, engaging all five senses. The lush flowers of Callistemon and Bougainvillea coexist with sustainability principles. A subterranean parking structure beneath the garden necessitated shallow-rooted species like Albizia to prevent structural damage, without compromising shading.

Proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, Mallorca’s mild climate, limited water quality, and the Balearic Islands’ biodiversity shaped the garden’s style. Salinity, local water pollution, and climate were key considerations.

Using Marés stone mulch, typical of Mallorca, we minimized water evaporation and plant transpiration while reducing carbon footprint by employing local materials. Prior to execution, the client could visualize plant appearances throughout the seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Detailed plans included zones, plant species, areas, irrigation, and lighting.
