Le Jardin du Gomier
Faced with rocky soil, scarce water, semi-desert conditions, and high salinity, we created a xerophytic coastal garden on land receiving barely 20 rainy days annually, aiming to integrate the garden with its environment. With almost no soil, rocks served as the base. We built walls and planters, filled with prepared soil for planting, and covered them with cascading tropical flowers requiring minimal water.
The design centers on a majestic Gomier tree (Bursera simaruba) on the property. Curved planters draped in Bougainvillea and Allamanda evoke ocean waves. Desert roses bloom alongside cacti, hibiscus, bromeliads, succulents, passionflowers, tamarind, Moringa & Calliandra.
Wind, sun, sea, and sunsets complete this Caribbean paradise, while thorny native trees such as carob and Acacia farnesiana provide shade and protection against drought and salinity.
