The Tree of Life

Design proposal. Marbella, Spain

Inspired by The Tree of Life by Gustav Klimt, we have designed a public park shaped like a carob tree, a native species of Andalusia. Each branch leads us towards the wishes symbolised by the existing trees in the park, surrounded by corten steel rings and mulched with pine bark to protect their roots and minimise water evaporation—evoking the eternal, unending cycle of nature.

Organic forms and circles shape a healthy space where resilience and sustainability take centre stage. The biodiversity found in Klimt’s work is reimagined through Nature-based Solutions (NbS), encouraging urban flora and fauna. These plant communities attract biodiversity, and visitors experience a deep connection with nature—characteristic of green cities that help mitigate the effects of climate change.
